Like in all first person shooters, America's Army is also based on quick reflexes, precise eye-hand coordination and last but not least, fast game reading. Even mastering only one of these three different features can be enough to overcome your opponent in many situations. In my opinion one of the simplest ways to become good is to try to define what part of the game you're naturally decent at and focus on it and improve yourself even better in it. If I had to name one particular ability over all the others judging by its importance, it would be the ability to adapt. You have to be able to adapt to different kind of situations and know how to play your cards right in them. Two of your teammates get taken down within seconds, opposing team is about to take over the objective you're defending, you're being left alone in a 1v4 situation , the list goes on. Some of you might be wondering now, what has all this got to do with tweaking?

1. What is tweaking?
Let's see what Wikipedia has to say about tweaking: "Tweaking refers to fine-tuning or adjusting a complex system, usually an electronic device. Tweaks are any small modifications intended to improve a system. In electronics, it is a synonym for "trimming.""
In our case that complex system is America's Army. Tweaks for America's Army can be divided to 2 general categories which are tweaks performed by the game itself and tweaks performed by software outside the game. We'll be covering both of these categories in this article, even though the main emphasis will be on the tweaks performed by the game.

2. In-Game tweaks
Some of the tweaks can be adjusted easily from AA's Main Menu under the "Settings" page. The tabs under "Settings" page are the following: Video, Audio, Input, Game, HUD and Parental.

3. INI tweaks
There's no game that would let you customize itself through the menu's 100% freely. This is when INI's/configs come in handy. Basically these contain all the information of your game's settings, even of ones that can't be found inside the in-game menus. in AA theres 2 INI files controlling the game which are ArmyOps.ini and User.ini. Both of them can be located in America's Army's folder under the subfolder "System". As a direct path it could look like this for example: "C:\Program Files\America's Army\System" depending on where you have installed the game. ArmyOps.ini is focused on the game's graphical rendering and audio settings while as User.ini is more about your controlls and general user interface.

Replace the value of both of these lines to Entry2.aao. This will disable the start up intro.

Remove the ; in front of RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice to make the game run in DirectX 9 instead of default DirectX 8. This will give a performance boost with newer graphic cards because they can handle DirectX 9 better than 8.

It should look like this

Set here the amount of video memory your graphic card has. For example if your graphic card has 256mb of video memory the line should be DetectedVideoMemory=256. In some cases it can be better to leave this at its default value of 0 which means that the amount of video memory will be detected automatically.

This value represents the amount of RAM set aside for temporarily caching game information. Value of 64 should be good for all systems. If you have more than 512mb of RAM you can try to rise this up to 128. Do not rise this value too high though since this is not where the entire game should be loaded. Too high values of CacheSizeMegs can cause worse performance than the default of 32.

In original UT this works in the way that when your fps goes below the given value your game tries to boost up the fps automatically by for example switching off dynamic lightning and such. This works differently in AA though. Some values which you can try here are 125, default (35) and 999. I myself use value of 125.

DesiredRefreshRate=75 - I think this doesn't actually effect unless you have VSync on but put your monitor's refresh rate here just to feel safe.
UseCompressedLightmaps=True - Lowers the quality of all map textures, you can see notice this especially by seeing weird colors in walls for example.

[D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]for this code block you repeat what you did above, NOTE: THERE MAY BE A COUPLE OF CODE LINES YOU NEED TO ADD FROM THE [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] TO THE [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] look close line for line most are at the bottom and only 2 to 4 lines of code
Same as with [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice].

to make finding these codes easier when in armyops.ini file hit the "edit" button and than the "find" copy these code block headers 1 at a time an paste them into the find to locate

AA defalt video card driver is DX8
this is not a hack only a fine tune for your computor and a better video card driver for AA
have fun and enjoy , Cracker
